Safe Place

Safe Place is a program set-up to provide immediate assistance for youth ages     12-17 in crisis. When teens in King County need a safe place to stay or are in crisis, Safe Place is there to assist them.

Safe Place map of King CountyAn important component of the Safe Place program are the local businesses, governmental agencies and non-profit organizations that volunteer to be designated “Safe Places” for youth in-crisis.

Safe Place organizations are located throughout King County and include:

King County Library System,

The YMCA of Greater Seattle,

Compass Housing Alliance 
(Renton & Shoreline)

King County Metro Transit.

A youth in  crisis only needs to ask for help from these partners and within 45 minutes a Safe Place Coordinator will arrive to provide assistance.

In addition, a youth can ask for help from any Metro Bus Driver. A youth can also call or text the Safe Place program and be directed to the nearest Safe Place site or access immediate help - see the box to the above right.

Become a Safe Place

Bus_pictureIf your business or organization would like to become a designated Safe Place to provide youth in need with a safe and supportive place to seek help, please call AYR’s Safe Place Coordinator at 253-350-0443. As a Safe Place site, your employees will receive free training and support. Please consider joining the nearly 18,000 businesses and organizations that are designated “Safe Places” nationwide.

Ask for help from a Metro bus driver.

You can also go to any Safe Place site and say, “I need a safe place."
